KENNY SCHACHTER ROVE Britannia Street

Tuesday 20 September - 1 October 2005
Launch party: Thursday 22 September from 7pm – late

Ab Rogers, Kenny Schachter ROVE gallery and Greenwich Village invite you to Tactile Nature - a sensual world of materiality and emotion.

As the international design community descends once more on London, Kenny Schachter ROVE hosts the event that promises to define this year’s London Design Festival. Curated by Ab Rogers, and in partnership with Greenwich Village, Tactile Nature transcends conventional divisions between art and design and provides an antidote to the static mundanity of “serious” design.

Bringing together an exquisite collection that can best be described as experiential, Tactile Nature is a celebration of the senses. All pieces – as seen, felt, smelt and sampled by a selection of the world’s most inspirational ‘architects of the senses’ - are unique or limited edition runs, and all are available for purchase. An intense light jungle bursts at the entrance and sets the scene for the body of the exhibition, which includes sensual furniture forms by Gaetano Pesce for Zero Disegno, Tord Boontje and Alexander McQueen, the Campana brothers, Committee, and Francesco Draisci, among others

Ab Rogers came to international prominence with his daring design concept for Comme des Garçon’s flagship store in Paris. He has curated Tactile Nature with the same innovative and engaging approach that his studio - Ab Rogers Design - brings to all projects, including architecture, interior design, branding & communication, graphics, and product design. Some of Rogers’ pieces will feature within the exhibition including the RAT (Rogue Ambience Table) and the LoveLight, which was created as part of the DESIGN 21_Love, Why? event, with UNESCO and Felissimo Group of Japan. The LoveLight tackles the question of why – more than ever - the world needs love, and along with Rogers’ other work, it leads the way for the exhibition by combining a sense of playfulness with functionality and sophistication.

As the UK distributor for Edra and the worldwide agents for the Campana Brothers, Greenwich Village is an ideal partner for the Tactile Nature project. They will be showcasing a collection from Dilmos, pieces by the Campana brothers (from the private collections of Greenwich Village and Kenny Schachter) and a selection of other designers in the Greenwich Village stable, all of which will be exhibited exclusively. Appearing alongside these will be the ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ collection by Gaetano Pesce for Zero Disegno, which will be presented for the first time in the UK.

Since it's opening in Hoxton last October, Kenny Schachter ROVE has recently relocated to a new space on Britannia Street, Kings Cross where the gallery continues to host a varied and dynamic schedule of international artists. Forthcoming shows include a Paul Thek retrospective showcasing a plethora of previously unseen work, as well as solo shows from the likes of installation artist Sanford Biggers and conceptual artist and filmmaker Maria Marshall. Next in the galley, opening on 22 October, is Zaha Hadid / Silver Paintings.
“While most contemporary design is beautifully articulated, it doesn’t engage with the emotions enough”, points out Rogers. “The pieces within Tactile Nature are explorative and sensual, they play in the space between the traditional boundaries of art and design, which encourages us to connect with them on aesthetic and emotional levels.”

Tactile Nature opens at Kenny Schachter ROVE on Tuesday 20 September and runs until 1 October, 2005.
