FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At Kenny Schachter conTEMPorary from June 18th through August 5th there will be a show including works by artists Anthony Molden and James A. Brown, and selections from the upcoming Rush Philanthropic art benefit founded by Russell Simmons. Molden is a self-taught artist who now resides in New York. His sculptural and hanging works exhibit a sort of artistic alchemy, a strange but beautiful synthesis of unlikely mediums. In works that are mainly abstract, he alters materials such as mop heads and feather boas so much that they are unrecognizable in the final product. James A. Brown works with found objects, like lawn ornaments and Santa heads, to make large assemblages that confront and puzzle the viewer with their defiled innocence and humor. Brown also works in two-dimensions, producing lively and colorful pieces which incorporate collage, painting and drawing. Human, animal, and hybrid beings populate the works, hanging, smiling, and looking at the viewer in a spirit similar to that of the sculptures. Performing at the opening on June 18th will be a band by the name of Empire, comprised of two guitars, bass, drums, saxophone, four vocals, and a G4. Paying homage to the mixed histories of black and white music, their music feels new and looks restlessly towards the future.

With generous support of Tanqueray
